Circuit Arts’ 25th-Anniversary Celebration Presents...

FIRELIGHT MEDIA NIGHT

Friday, August 15 | 5 & 8 PM
The Grange Hall, West Tisbury

Back in 2023, we partnered with Firelight Media to host a filmmaker residency on Martha’s Vineyard. A group of visionary storytellers then came to the Island to develop their works in progress. We’re thrilled to announce that two of those are now complete, and we’re honored to present them where it all began.

Join us for a special evening showcasing these powerful new films.

BACKSIDE

Dir. Raúl O. Paz-Pastrana  | Documentary | U.S.A. | 2025 | 1 hr. 25 min.

Followed by a discussion with director Raúl O. Paz-Pastrana

Several immigrant workers begin their days at 2 a.m., seven days a week, year round, caring for some of the world’s most prized racehorses. Set against the backdrop of a racing season at Churchill Downs’ barns in Louisville, Kentucky—known as “the backside”—this tender, observational film reveals the symbiotic relationship between human and animal labor, celebrating the quiet beauty of unseen work and the resilience of those who sustain it.

THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT

8 PM

Dir. Karla Murthy | Documentary | U.S.A. | 2025 | 1 hr. 23 min.

Followed by a discussion with director Karla Murthy

A daughter reflects on her father’s life by weaving the story of his miraculous journey—from the streets of India—with the realities of living in America. Using phone calls recorded while he worked nights at a gas station, along with home movies past and present, this intimate film is a meditation on family, the immigrant experience, and the dreams we carry with us.
