Presented in partnership with the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society, preceded by three short films by Matthew Taylor, and followed by a discussion with film subjects Allen Whiting and Simon Athearn

A Painter Who Farms captivated audiences when the MVFF premiered it in 2018, and Circuit Arts is delighted to screen it again. This documentary about West Tisbury painter Allen Whiting, by the Emmy-winning directors of last year’s film about Island stonemason Lew French (The Power of Stone), is a tribute to a man whose agricultural roots and creative spirit are deeply entwined. Longtime conservationist Bob Woodruff and next-generation farmers Simon Athearn and Mason Fischer are the subjects of three short films Matthew Taylor made this year, thanks to a Vineyard Vision Fellowship grant, from film he shot in the mid-2000s. They capture the centrality of sustainable agriculture on Martha’s Vineyard, and attest to Island farmers’ love of the land.
